The commissionerate of police had given the project to Odisha State Police Housing & Corporation Limited to fit high frequency CCTV Cameras in Police Control Room (PCR) Vans to keep an hawk-eye on law and order situations at different places in the city. Corporation CMD Satyajit Mohanty decided to install PTZ Surveillance Cameras(Pan Tilt Zoom) inside 33 PCR Vans to capture images of anti-social elements during law and order problems. All the existing 33 vans were donated to police by several corporate houses as part of their corporate social responsibility. But maintenance of those vehicles is a major cause for concern as the vehicles need urgent replacement. They have written to the state government for more funds to repair vehicles or to replace the old ones with new vans. The CCTV cameras are installed on PCR vans to cover the entire city. But initially the government had a plan to put CCTV cameras only at vital installations, but subsequently brought the vans are under the project .The installation of GPS-enabled gadgets in PCR vans in the city gone hi-tech in March 2011 to respond emergency situations in quick time. One of the Senior police Officer said, Patrolling will definitely prevent If they don’t have sufficient number of vans to cover the entire city ,including some rural areas falling under our jurisdiction.
