What To Do When You Suspect Someone Is Stealing From You

Some items are missing. You get short in inventories. Products cannot just disappear into thin air, right? You did not put up a business to give away. Someone might be is stealing from you!

By the way, I own a DIY store. While I am knocking my head losing money for the missing items, one of my original staff is noticeably upgrading her lifestyle! She gets a new iPhone and wears expensive make up.

At first, I am in denial. Come on, she is one of my first staff, we have lunch together, how can she steal from me? I hesitate to confront her in fear of ruining my working relation with her.

But the losses grow and I will be out of business if it continues. So, I made a decision to put an end to the losses and suspicion. A friend has mentioned before that putting up surveillance cameras or CCTV in his shop makes his employees diligent and honest in work. He said they fear being caught on cam.

I asked him what CCTV model is best for my shop. He suggested the same CCTV camera he uses for his shop; model DS-7104 HWI-SL.

According to my friend, this DS-7104 HWI-SL model is compact which makes it very easy to install. It has a resolution of up to 960H which is very good for viewing recordings, gives you a clear video of the thief.  What is so nice about this model is that you can view it not only over the internet but in your cell phone as well. It is also tamper proof!

I run to a spy shop right away and purchased DS-7104 HWI-SL. In just a couple of days, I caught the thief on cam!

CCTV IS EASY TO INSTALL

CCTV, as the name implies, is a closed circuit television, which is used for surveillance purposes. Hospitals, Banks, Business Tycoons, Schools, Jails, Jeweler shops, in short wherever watch has to be kept all the 24 hours, installation of cctv cameras has become an absolute necessity.

Equipment needed – Digital Video Recorder (DVR), Cameras of high quality night vision type, ordinary LED cameras, CAT -5 Transmission Cable, RG 59 Cable – length as per requirement – Connection Sockets and pins as required. Step-down Transformer of 12V capacity, Amperage, depending on the load that will be given, manufactured by reputed manufacturers to be chosen.

The Digital Video Recorder, which is the vital equipment that will tell the story of what happened at any given time, has to be installed at a very strategic location. In the case of a house, mounting has to be in the secrecy of the bedroom. The cameras are to be mounted in such a way that optimum visuals are captured by them and transmitted by the cables to the DVR. In the sparsely lighted area, the costly night vision cameras have to be mounted.

CAT-5 Cable should be used because of the ease with which the connection plugs are fixed and unfixed. However for very large number of camera requirements, RG59 cable will have to be used, but they will require specialist skills. In the case of CAT-5 cable used for house hold purposes, a small device called Balun is attached at the end of each cable run to block disturbances in video signals.

The hard drive in the DVR should be large enough for recording purposes for 24X7. For Search menu facilities, speeding up to 32 times speed also should be there, along with pause, moving frame by frame etc for investigation purposes.

Backup feature is vital, and most DVRs have soft discs allowing us to play backup recordings on our laptop computer also.

CCTV CAMERAS AND ROAD SAFETY

Fixed Speed CCTV cameras are those which are installed in strategic locations in highways. A previous statistical analytic study is undertaken as to where frequent accidents due to excessive speeding. By installing CCTV cameras in those places, in such a way that they are discernible to the drivers, the speed rating has come down by 71%, thereby avoiding the chances of accidents.

CCTV cameras control the speed thereby reducing the severity of crashes. Cameras have helped compensate this problem. The real question is the avoidance of crashes and casualties rather than how many are caused by speed. At sites of community concern, CCTV cameras should be installed without fail.

Traffic Monitoring – Many cities and motorway networks have wide traffic monitoring systems, using CCTV to detect congestion and also follow accidents.  Sometimes these cameras are owned by private companies, who however transmit the relevant data to the drivers’ GPS systems.

If we take U.K.as an example, its Highway Agency has a publicly-owned CCTV network of over 1,200 cameras covering the entire English motorway and trunk motor network. These cameras are basically used to monitor traffic conditions only and not as speeding cameras. With the addition of fixed cameras for Active Traffic Management system, the number of cameras is likely to increase over the present figure.

U.S. - In the U.S also the use of CCTV for the road safety purposes is increasing by leaps and bounds. Global Security Solutions with the help of Zone Tech Systems announced the launch of IP surveillance in the U.S security industry by partnering with Axis Communications. The CCTV market in the U.S is touching new heights.

There is a High Definition Car security camera (an advanced camera) which captures vital data in case of car accidents and can be used as photographic and video evidence in courts of law. This is very useful as drivers continue to misbehave and drive as they please and cause accidents.

CCTV Footage Aids in Investigation

The CCTV footage released after Spain’s tragic train crash helps a lot in the investigation. It shows the world what really happened that day aiding investigators and prosecutors. It demonstrates what went wrong and what needs to be fixed with rail systems.

According to Deputy Chief Constable Graeme Gerrard of the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), when an incident happens, a CCTV is a vital element of the investigative process. It is not an understatement to say now that the first piece of evidence that an investigating officer will go looking for is the CCTV evidence. How CCTV Remote Access Monitoring Works

CCTV Remote Access Monitoring is technically motion detectors connected to cameras linked by a transmission system. The transmission is connected by a telephone line to the receiving control.

The premise is protected by detectors which activates when someone intrudes. When it activates, the image from the camera is compressed and transmitted electronically by the transmission system to the receiving control.

Benefits of CCTV Remote Access Monitoring

The advent of CCTV Remote Access Monitoring means fewer manned security guards, less mobile patrols. The lesser manned guards and patrols, the bigger savings you will have. Results have showed it, 80% of cost savings by switching to CCTV system.

Warn off unwanted intruders with voice over. This would prevent further crimes by deterring intruders knowing that they are being seen.

With CCTV live video stream, a real incident can be distinguished from false alarm. Therefore, reporting only to police when there is really an incident that needs action.

Furthermore, CCTV Remote Access Monitoring can be used to integrate remote building management like opening and closing gate barriers, switching lights, powering up equipment and securing premises.

The Nanny Camera

MOSCOW - a monster nanny was caught abusing a two year- old toddler after the parents set up a hidden camera in their house. The parents were horrified as they watched the nanny hit their daughter and threatened to shove her face in a bowl of soup.

PHILIPPINES – a violent baby-sitter faced charges after a family discovered in CCTV camera that she is abusing their 3-month-old baby. In the footage, the nanny is seen hitting and slapping the infant for multiple times.

MALAYSIA – an Indonesian maid was sentenced to 20 years jail time after she pleaded guilty in attempting to murder and abused a four months baby boy. A close-circuit television recording revealed that she hurled the boy down 9 times.

These are just few of the many cases of child abuse discovered with the aid of CCTV cameras. Without the cameras installed, the parents might never know what is happening to their kids when they leave the house.

If you are a parent employed who goes out regularly, do not just leave your kids in the hands of a sitter. Look after them even if away by installing a nanny cam now.

How to Set Up a Nanny Camera

Have a peace of mind while away by installing a nanny cam. Here is how to set up a system in your own home.

In installing the camera, you should decide first which camera is right for you. Think if it should be a day/night camera, something with a sturdy base you can place on top of flat surface, or something you can mount on the ceiling.

Also, take into consideration where you want to set up the camera. It would be best if you place them where in the house your kids spend most of their time.

Next, add the camera to a network.  Once the cameras are connected in the network, finally watch the video stream.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO HACK CCTV CAMERAS ATTACHED TO NETWORKS

The most popular brands of the closed –circuit surveillance cameras are unfortunately sold with remote controlled access enabled by default along with weak password security. This classic recipe for security failure could allow the hackers to remotely tap into video feeds.

According to Justin Cacak, the senior security engineer at Gotham Digital Science, the researcher on cctv hacking systems, the cameras used by Banks, retailers, hostels, hospitals and corporations are often insecurely configured due to the manufacturer’s default settings. This permits the hackers to view with impunity the live footage, the archived footage as well as control the direction or zoom of the adjustable cameras.

Cacak and his team conducted penetration tests for their clients. They were able to unearth more than 1000 closed-circuit TV cameras which were exposed to internet and vulnerable to remote compromise, due to the inbuilt deficiencies of the system as well as insecure configuration of them by the companies.

Usually CCTV video surveillance systems are fixed at entrances and exits as well as sensitive areas, such as Bank vaults, server rooms, R&D Labs and expensive equipments locations. Normally they are on areas, from which they are easily visible bur many time they are kept hidden to secretly monitor the movements of employees and others without their knowledge.

Remote access capability is a convenient feature in many of CCTV systems because the security personnel can view the video feed and control cameras via the internet with laptops or mobile phones. Unfortunately the systems are also susceptible to outside hackers because they are not set up securely. If the feature is enabled by default on purchase, customers may not know this to be the case nor should they take special steps to secure the systems as a result.

Facial Recognition In CCTV Surveillance

When closed circuit television (CCTV) camera surveillance initially started off, it began with the most basic camera models that were positioned in just a few places and involved a lot of work to make these cameras really work out to the benefit of everyone. In recent times, however, these cameras have evolved drastically and much has been done to incorporate new technology and make them ever more effective in fulfilling their role of crime prevention and protection of the community.

How Facial Recognition Works

A number of newer CCTV surveillance cameras have incorporated facial recognition as one of their highlights. These automated systems can track several people at the same time, and help in identifying people. This is especially useful in the case of people who are on the run from the law and when the lawmakers wish to find them and track them down. Facial recognition systems are linked to massive databases that offer immediate identification of people from any surveillance system.

While this system of facial recognition is still under development, it has been put under a lot of testing in specific phases. These CCTV surveillance systems have been tested out on healthcare systems as a means to closely monitor patient activity levels or behavior  This could, in a way, give healthcare professionals a clue as to what the state of health of the patient is. In time, this technology could expand to encompass other areas of surveillance, where facial recognition and monitoring of people could serve to highlight possible criminal activity even before it is implemented, and prevent a lot of nefarious acts from being carried out.

Consider a scenario of a thief entering a store that is filled with people. He generally would be apprehensive about stealing since he can be seen and identified. The same logic is built in with a CCTV camera – when criminals know that the eye of technology is upon them, they will be less inclined to indulge in criminal acts.

Security cameras also offer a means to catch criminals who nevertheless indulge in unlawful activities. Since these cameras have very precise facial recognition systems and can help the law identify people, those who indulge in these activities do not escape scot-free. The knowledge that they can be apprehended is also another deterrent to criminal activities. Apart from this, getting criminals safely behind bars will protect the community and help prevent repetitions of such acts.

How CCTV Surveillance Protects Surat

The world of security has known much about how well a security surveillance camera works to protect a home or commercial complex. Closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras have made quite an impact in the field of security, and now this technology has been implemented for the benefit of the entire city of Surat. On Thursday, July 18, 2013, the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated “Safe City Surat”. This is Surat’s new vigilance network that is also India’s first ever project based on the Public Private Partnership model.

Surat’s Surveillance Network
For India, this venture is the first of its kind. Surat’s new surveillance network is said to be planned in three phases and in partnership with many private entities that are also concerned about the city’s security and welfare. The new project is said to have 5000 CCTV cameras set up at 500 locations. The whole surveillance network will cover a range of 200 kilometers of the city.

The IP technology used for these cameras is extremely high and all care has been taken to ensure that they work as part of the original plan. They are tamper proof and are protected against weather conditions as well as vandalism. The Command and Control room is constantly online to keep a watch on the city and these CCTV surveillance cameras are also all set to provide other beneficial mechanisms such as fire alarms, reporting on water levels and even planning on disaster recovery.

Once again, Narendra Modi has a feather in his cap with the new project at Surat. Surat is all set to be a model city for the rest of India in protecting residents especially in high crime areas.

How Good Are CCTV Cameras At Preventing Crime?

The constant eye of technology is on you wherever you go these days. With closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras becoming increasingly popular in public localities as well as private homes, you feel as though you are watched wherever you go. While this can seem irksome at times, CCTV cameras do have their benefits. With waves of crime sweeping the world and terrorist activities on the rise, the presence of these cameras acts as a deterrent against crime to a large extent.

Crime Prevention With Security Cameras

While CCTV cameras cannot rule out crime completely, they do put a check to a large number of criminal activities. As brazen as they may seem, not all criminals would want to get caught by the long arm of the law. Therefore, when there are security cameras anywhere, these miscreants usually avoid engaging in their nefarious activities where they can be identified and apprehended later on. While all crime cannot be prevented and security cameras are also prone to vandalism, they do go a long way in preventing crime. Much depends, though, on the type and quality of the cameras chosen and installed.

At CCTV Shop, we have a wide range of CCTV cameras of all types on offer from which you can choose. We have the best in terms of technology and we ensure that the cameras in our store are well above the mark technologically as well as in terms of quality. Ethical Use Of CCTV cameras

As a result, more and more homes and businesses, as well as public areas, are getting these security cameras installed.

Proper Use Of CCTV Cameras

While these security cameras are really beneficial, there are some ethics that need to be followed so that their use does not infringe on the privacy of rights of others. Deliberate misuse of these cameras should be avoided, as this can be punished by law. Data retention and access should be restricted so that private and public bodies do not misuse captured footage by any means.

It should always be kept in mind that CCTV cameras are to be used as a means of protection and not as tools to spy on others. Basic ethics, when applied to security cameras, will truly make them a tool for the greater good, and not one that can be abused or misused. Some cameras are sold with a view to infringe on the rights of others. Use of these is unethical and criminal, and should be avoided.

There are different types of CCTV cameras that are currently on sale, and you will find some of the best and most ethical cameras at CCTV Shop. We have special offers and bundled features open for those who would like to get the best cameras while also getting a good bargain. The idea of using these cameras has caught on to a great extent as more and more people are able to understand the high levels of protection offered by the eye of technology.

Neighborhood Protection Made Easy

Dealing with the aftermath of crime waves can be avoided if adequate steps are taken to prevent this from happening. CCTV cameras provide the means to prevent crime to a large extent. When criminals know that they are being observed, they are less inclined to indulge in criminal acts. Therefore, these cameras serve as crime prevention agents.

In some cases, brazen criminals ignore the fact that there are cameras present and nevertheless indulge in criminal activities. In these cases, they can be easily apprehended as CCTV cameras can capture their activities and offer irrefutable proof of their nefarious deeds.
